PROCESS · IN HIS OWN WORDS
How the work is made
Five questions people actually ask — about the tools, the gift, the scarcity, the dreams, and how the collections sit together. Answered plainly, because the honesty is part of the work.

Is it still your art if AI made the image?
The brush has never been the painter. I direct, reject, recompose, and finish — hundreds of decisions per plate, most of them refusals. The model proposes; I decide what crosses the threshold and what gets deleted. A tool has never threatened to be the artist before, so the question is new, but the answer is old: authorship lives in judgment, not in who moved the pigment.
Doesn’t this skip the years of skill?
It skips one kind of skill and demands another. Rendering is not the same faculty as seeing — and seeing is the part that took the years. What I bring is the gift of knowing when an image is telling the truth, plus the craft of getting it onto a surface: colour management, substrate, the UV pass, the edition. The machine shortens the drawing. It shortens nothing else.
If the file can be copied infinitely, what am I buying?
Scarcity here is made, not pretended. Grace is the restraint: capped editions, retired files, no reprints in a new size to catch a second wave. Guard is the record: a UV finish on physical work that a screen or scan cannot reproduce, and an on-chain anchor written as part of sealing each piece. You are buying a specific object or a specific sealed master, with its history attached.
SEE HOW EDITIONS ARE CAPPED →Dreams as source material — is that serious?
Dreams are data. They are recorded on waking, dated, and read back for the things that repeat — a doorway, a hand, a light that arrives from the wrong direction. Those recurrences become plates. Nothing mystical is claimed and nothing is guessed at; it is a logged practice, treated with the same rigour as a colour profile.
How does AphroDreamWerX relate to the other collections?
ThurmanatorX Art is the house. AphroDreamWerX is the wing that works the threshold between the waking mind and the dreaming one — same hand, same guarantees, its own visual language. The other collections keep their own subjects and their own type; what carries across all of them is Grace and Guard.
GRACE
Made with a machine and a hand, and honest about which did what.
GUARD
Provenance kept plainly — the record travels with the work.
